Carlos Giffoni+Rotary ECT

20 years ago, Carlos Giffoni quickly made a name for himself both as a noise guitarist and a laptop noisician upon arriving in New York (via Florida and Venezuela). His expertly curated annual No Fun Festival, as well as his No Fun label, further solidified him as a key figure in the international noise scene.

Now he has re-emerged in a big way with Dream Walker, his first full-length since 2018’s Vain (and only his second since 2010). Inspired by performances at the GRM electronic music festival in Paris in 2023, he began conceptualizing new music in response, turning to synthesizers and other hardware to produce a work firmly in the tradition of European electronic music.

Produced by Lasse Marhaug and released by Stephen O’Malley, Dream Walker evokes the edge of consciousness — a late-night journey through tonal, repetitive, and trance-like sound worlds, forming two side-long suites that proceed like stages of a dream.

Rotary ECT is the artistic moniker of Christopher Reid Martin — an experimental audiovisual artist and composer known for immersive performances that merge sound, light, and spatial perception.
Under this name, Martin creates site-responsive works, often blending drone, noise, electroacoustic textures, and environmental recordings with generative visual systems. Rotary ECT explores the intersections between mechanical rotation, memory, and electromagnetic phenomena — the name itself referencing cyclical motion (“rotary”) and induced currents or energy flow (“ECT” as in electroconvulsive or electrical current transmission).

Rotary ECT’s live shows typically involve multi-channel sound diffusion, custom-built Max/MSP + RNBO systems, and projected visual environments, situating the work within the lineage of experimental electronic and audiovisual practices.
